Medical Student Support Team (MSST)

In addition to Student Services available to all students at UQ, there is a dedicated student support team for medical students. Medical Student Support offers the following services:

  • Mental health and wellbeing support, strategies and resources
  • Navigating university policies and procedures and liaising with the Faculty
  • Maximising performance
  • Overcoming unique challenges of studying in a foreign country or interstate
  • Referral to specialist support services e.g. counselling, disability support, accommodation and learning support.

Academic support

  • Proactive and reactive academic support
  • Identifies students at risk of not progressing and supports with academic advice, or referral to other services
  • Works closely with Course Coordinators and other key support staff
  • Ensures high achieving students are recognised

  • Individualised medical careers advice  particularly for international students who wish to stay in Australia after graduation 
  • Improving access to information medical careers including careers events

Exercise physiology

The service includes:

  • Free, supervised exercise sessions Monday - Friday all year round
  • Supervision from Accredited Exercise Physiologists plus, involvement from allied health students (exercise sport scientist and clinical exercise physiology) from the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences
  • Services available on St Lucia Campus: St Lucia Clinical Unit and Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences + Off Campus: UQ Healthy Living, Toowong and PA-Southside Clinical Unit
  • Free, individualised exercise physiology consults
  • Discussion and provision of resources regarding exercise as medicine
