Our research group conducts research to improve the understanding of the clinical effects of blood and blood products, and to provide an evidence base for policy decisions in the Blood sector. Our research provides information on the incidence and risk of transfusion transmitted infections, and the underlying causes of adverse transfusion reactions, including the characterisation of rare blood groups with requirements for specialised transfusion support. We have particular expertise in the quantification of risk to ensure the safety of blood components for clinical use.

Our group has a number of different research projects available for students interested in blood transfusion, haematology and/or epidemiology – please contact us to discuss specific projects currently available.
