Researcher biography

Laura currently works as Postdoctoral Research Fellow for Prof Mieke van Driel and Prof Geoff Mitchel. With Prof Mieke van Driel, her main projects focus on antibiotic resistance and systematic literature reviews. With Prof Geoffrey Mitchell, Laura's project focuses on integrated palliative care.

Laura started her career in 2008 as a research fellow at The University of Maastricht (the Netherlands) after just having successfully graduated as a Master in Epidemiology at the same university.

In 2009, she started her PhD at the University of Leuven (Belgium). Under guidance of Prof Frank Buntinx, Laura set up a cohort study on older cancer survivors in Belgium, initially, and later expanded to the Netherlands. In her PhD she focused on the longitudinal development of wellbeing after cancer diagnosis, studying for example how loneliness, depression and cognitive functioning evolved over time and in comparison with older people without cancer.

In 2013 Laura moved to UQwhere she completed her PhD with co-supervision from Professor Mieke van Driel in the Discipline of General Practice. While writing up her PhD thesis in 2014, she was employed at the Discipline of General Practice at UQ as aresearch fellow on various research projects, which provided her with the opportunity to explore new research and acquire new skillsets (e.g. qualitative research and Cochrane reviews).

Laura was awarded her PhD in March 2015.
